The Wedding Cake

When I first suggested to my brother to let me make his wedding cake, I reckon I must have been in a food coma or something. My brother and his bride, my new sister-to-be, very kindly said “yes!” even though I am sure they didn’t know what they said yes to!

As the Big Day drew near, pressure began to mount and everyone at home was treading on egg shells around me. The cosy wedding cake had to be upsized into a 7-tier 120 cupcakes cum 7 inch tall wedding cake project after someone finally had the good sense to visit the venue 2 weeks before the event.

Boom! …reality hit between the eyes – cosy wedding cake is NOT going to make it. It’ll be like Sebastian (cosy wedding cake) being swallowed by Ursula (huge ballroom) in Little Mermaid.

“To be, or not to be, that is the question” – If I succeeded, my brother owes me for life. But if all crashed and burned, then the tables turn big time! Those 2 weeks leading up to the wedding were filled with rollercoaster thoughts of ….LET IT GO! or…..JUST DO IT!

At last, on a wing and a prayer…..Nike won 😊

Now that it’s all done and dusted, I am so glad I earned my stripes and did not capitulate.

I will always remember the moment my brother set eyes on his wedding cake, that stunned incredulous look at first and how his face lit up after that.

And my wonderful new sister, the beautiful Bride (who never once doubted me, I’m sure) calmly took in my cake and smiled so appreciatively that led to thunderous applause from the floor.

At least the way I remembered it 😊

About the Wedding Cake ensemble – it included:

Wedding Cake Ensemble

  • 120 Chocolate Cupcakes with Chantilly cream and Dark Chocolate Frosting,

  • one 7 inch tall Luscious Lemon Cake (check out my recipe here) ;

  • decorated with a “Happily Ever After” cherry wood designer cake topper from Alexis Mattox. She has some amazing designs, check it out here.

So why chocolate and lemon? Because life is always better with chocolate. And when life gives you lemons, make a lemon cake and eat it!

Hence this is the pinnacle of my baking life to date. And to my dear brother, let it be on record that I intend to milk this for a long long, long long, long long long time.
